Traditionally, the annual memorial lights will be lit at the Canadian Cemetery in Holten on December 24 at 4:30 p.m. A special tradition on Christmas Eve: placing candles at the Canadian Cemetery in Holten. The school youth and other children present placing a memorial light at each of the 1394 graves. The burning candles set the cemetery in an impressive glow throughout the evening and night. A number of bagpipers and midwinter horn players will accompany the commemoration musically. Schoolchildren will gather at the cemetery entrance at 4:15 p.m. on Christmas Eve to place the candles. The ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. SVNF, the organizing foundation behind the commemorations at the Canadian Cemetery advises visitors to come by foot or bicycle as much as possible.
