Apenheul: a forest full of free-roaming monkeys!
In this beautiful green park on the Veluwe, more than half of the monkeys roam freely among the visitors. This means you can admire them up close! Along the way, you’ll find useful spotting tips, so you won’t miss a single one. Apenheul is a wildlife park on the edge of Apeldoorn, just a 45-minute drive from our holiday park and campsite in Rijssen.

Spot monkeys among the treetops
Not all monkeys in Apenheul roam freely—some, like orangutans and gorillas, have their own special habitats. You can learn all about them during the zookeeper presentations. Don’t miss the Apenboompad, where you walk among the treetops and discover even more monkeys and other rainforest animals. Done spotting monkeys? Visit the Na-aaphuis or enjoy a delicious organic snack with a view of Gorilla Island.
Support the ANF with your visit
At Apenheul, nature and animal conservation are top priorities. The park not only teaches you about the monkeys in Apenheul but also about their relatives in the wild. The Apenheul Nature Conservation Fund (ANF) supports projects worldwide to protect primates and their habitats. Sadly, many monkey species and their environments are under threat. By visiting Apenheul, you’re directly contributing to the ANF’s mission.
